Central Florida Media Group positively impacts the area’s key business sectors through socially responsible and tightly focused publishing as well as quality services that reach a variety of niche readers and industries.
The company’s founder, Nelson Kirkland, is no stranger to Central Florida or publishing. Nelson started Central Florida Media Group in March of 2010 after having spent 24 years with the New York Times Regional Media Group. Nelson was considered in the NYT co. Top 100 talent. He is the former publisher of the Winter Haven News Chief and the former director of advertising for The Ledger (Lakeland, Florida). Nelson received his BA in Journalism from the University of Central Florida in 1985. He is a sixth-generation Floridian. For Nelson, social responsibility is what it is all about. He has served as chairman of the board for the Red Cross of Polk and Highlands counties as well as the Greater Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves on the Executive Board of Directors for Polk Vision and Board of Directors for the Auburndale Chamber of Commerce and Polk County Farm Bureau. Kirkland was also the Chairman of Leadership Polk Class Four, having graduated through the program as a member of Leadership Polk Class One. Nelson is a past recipient of the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Distinguished Leadership Alumni Award and is a ten-time recipient of the New York Times Chairman’s Award. He has served on numerous other community and professional associations, including the Newspaper Association of America and Florida Press Association.
Celeste Jo Walls, Managing Editor
Four months after the company’s establishment, Celeste came on board and brought with her 10 years of writing and journalism experience, providing key expertise in niche market magazines for the print and digital platform as well as social media management. Before joining CFMG, she received her Bachelor’s Degree from Rollins College, and was the editorial director for a home improvement magazine in Central Florida. As a native to Florida and an active member of the community, she often volunteers at various events, such as the annual Polk County Farm Bureau Agri-Fest for young fourth graders. She and her husband also volunteer at their local church and regularly donate to the Mercy Closet for those in need. With a background in public speaking, Celeste will often provide seminars on social media or magazine publishing to local chamber organizations and other institutions. She currently lives in Davenport with her husband and their four children.

Jo Tillman, Advertising Account Executive
As a Polk County resident for 41 years, there is hardly a face or name in the community who Jo doesn’t know and call friend. She previously worked at Hibu / Yellow Book for seven years, and before that, she owned and operated her own small business. She has a reputation that precedes her in client care and media expertise for print and digital marketing. As a mother of a son in the Army as well as two younger boys in college, Jo has never had a dull moment (and prefers it that way)! In her spare time, Jo enjoys spending time with her fiancé, going to church, and having quality time with her granddaughter.
Matt Cobble, Media Technician
Some companies are fortunate enough to have a teammate that can do a little bit of everything. At CFMG, we have quite a few of those people, and Matt is definitely one of them. He is a graduate from the International Baccalaureate program at Bartow High School, Polk State College, and Stetson University. His expertise lies in the realms of social media, web development, computer technology, search engine optimization, graphic design, video production, and more. When he’s not at Central Florida Media Group headquarters, Matt is most likely in the classroom, acting as a substitute teacher for the Polk County school board. In his spare time, Matt volunteers at Trinity Christian Center and enjoys writing, cooking, and acting.
