There are a variety of digital advertising techniques that you can use to reach your target audience. With audiences becoming increasingly sophisticated, there comes a need for more sophisticated forms of advertising. Enter native advertising.
In this blog, we’ll cover just what native advertising is, and how you can use it to your advantage. For more tips on advertising your business, visit our blog or reach out to us here at Central Florida Media Group.
What is Native Advertising?
Native advertising is a paid ad that mimics the format and style of normal content around it. For example, while using Instagram, an advertisement might appear in your normal feed and look like a normal Instagram post, distinguished only by a label saying it’s a sponsored post.
Because native advertisements fit seamlessly into the user experience, they can be more effective than other types of ads, like banner ads. While many instinctually ignore other types of more obvious ads, native ads blend in and as such are more likely to be actually noticed.
There are a few different ways to do native advertising:
- In-feed units: These are much like the example given above. In-feed units appear in a social media feed or on a blog in-line with other posts or articles.
- Advertorials: These are paid advertisements that are designed to mimic editorial content, most often seen in newspapers and magazines.
- Paid search units: When you do a Google search, you might notice the first few results are sponsored ads. These are paid search units.
- Recommendation widgets: When you see a list of recommended articles to the side or at the bottom of the article you’re reading, these are recommendation widgets. These may be mixed in with links to articles on the same site, but in other cases, they’ll all be outbound links.
- Promoted listings: These are sponsored listings that appear along with your organic search results on online retailers like Amazon.
While there are other forms of native advertising, these are some of the most common and successful forms. But with the speed of technological change, new forms are ever evolving. To learn more about digital marketing, check out this blog.
